Student Success Specialist

Below is a listing of some of the areas of responsiblities that I have this year as Principal of student success.


First Nations Metis Inuit

  • helped develop board action plan

  • helped to enlist 6 more schools to implement Native Studies English

  • helped to work out a plan to develop curriculum resources for new course

  • member of FNMI Steering Committee

IPP Pilot and Implementation

  • working with Curriculum team to develop a plan for roll out of Individual Pathways Plan in secondary

  • working with 6 pilot schools

  • delivering workshops and some in-servicing of staff around the IPP and curriculum connections

  • communicating with OECTA re: requirement of IPP and overall plan design

Joint Protocol Student Achievement

  • work with Barrie Region partners to develop a protocol and roll out plan (training for staff) of the protocol

Renewed Math Strategy - Secondary Plan

  • working with Math consultant on a plan to support students taking grade 9 Math

  • working with administration on the reporting process

  • create PD opportunities and support for Admin via Math coaches for the RMS

Renewed Math Strategy - Transition Plan

  • work closely with Transition consultant to bridge the gaps in curriculum between grade 8 teachers in feeder schools to grade 9 teachers in secondary

Supporting Racialized Students in Ontario Project (FNMI Project)

  • oversee the spending of Ministry awarded funds and the organization of a boardwide initiative to build awareness around the Water Crisis on Giorgina Island

  • work with Board Lead and community members to build a greater awareness around FNMI concerns

  • work on a land acknowledgement

CIECYR Community Talks 

  • attended and participated in FNMI talk hosted by YRDSB and then YCDSB featuring talks 

Professional Development Committee

  • work with the communitee to discuss and develop topics and material for PD Days

Research Advisory Committee

  • work with the committee to review project proposals and requests for surveys from outside agencies and partners


Community Connected Experiential Learning Project

  • worked with schools to develop and submit grant proposals (particularly St. Jerome's Splice Week project and Sacred Heart's The Spiritual Canoe project)

French Immersion

  • worked on admissions procedure for students in non-YCDSB feeder French immersion schools

Growing Success Review

  • worked with OECTA and senior team to review growing success document and to update credit recovery protocol

Northern Initiative

  • working with the Giorgina schools to provide curriculum support and on marketing materials

  • represented the board at Catholic School Council meeting

Special Education: Student Success Update

  • worked with special education department to update the students success protocol and student services procedures

Subject Chairs Meetings

  • working with curriculum consultant to support building competencies of chairs around how to moderate a google hangout

Subject Council Meetings

  • workshopped the Individual Pathways Plan with the council and provided support for google hangouts​


AEAC Tool Reporting

  • provide feedback re: school level pland and support to secondary administrators with the Achieving Excellence in Applied Courses tool

Student Success Expenditure Reporting

  • report on how student success funding is being spent to support student achievement

Taking Stock Reporting

  • report on student retention rates and achievement


Alternative Education, Review of Programming

  • Review of delivery of Alternative Education

CO-Operative Education Program

  • ·Oversee the budget and procedures re: COOP

Dual-Credit Program

  • Oversee implementation of the program

eLearn Program

  • work closely with the eLearn TELT coordinator

  • assist with organization of eLearn

  • oversee efforts of eLearn teachers

  • Interview new eLearn teachers

  • support innovative assessment strategies and curriculum design

  • manage any student concerns

  • manage any systemic barriers to student success

Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program

  • work closely with and provide support to the Pathways consultant to create a strategy to promote OYAP to more students

Skills Competition

  • support the work of the Pathways coordinator and the teacher moderator for the skills competition 

  • remove any systemic barriers 

Specialist High Skills Major

  • work closely with the SHSM board coordinator

  • responsible for interviewing new liaisons with the principal

  • responsible for overseeing budgets, spending, etc 

  • support the development of new SHSM programs

  • approve all Ministry reports​

STEPS Program

  • conducted a review of the program with STEPS teachers

  • revised eligibility criteria for students

  • arranged for Why Try training for staff

  • responsible for hiring STEPS teachers



Community Connected Experiential Learning

  • helped to facilitate the application process 

  • will be supporting the 4 of 7 grant proposals that have been awarded a grant

Deeper Conversations Conference

  • arranged for Curriculum staff, guidance, administration, coop teachers and SHSM liaisons to attend a Ministry conference focused on experiential learning

Innovation Creativity and Entrepreneurship (ICE) Project

  • arranged for 7 teachers to be ICE trained so that they can run workshops for SHSM students

Vice Principal Discernment Series

  • presented on Safe Schools to discerning teachers

Secondary Staffing - PDT / SSI Allocation

  • will be working with OECTA and senior admin to help determine staffing and sectioning allocation

York Catholic Secondary Administrators Association

  • managed accommodation for YCSAA Annual Conference

  • arranged for Professional Development sessions: The Innovator's Mindset, George Couros; The Digital Principal, Janette Hughes

  • Created Website for conference:



  • promote and manage registration for Crimestoppers symposium

Empowered Student Partnerships

  • member of the steering committee

  • promote and manage registration for kick off and year end

  • helped orgnize, promote and manage our first ever leadership symposium

Police Protocol Training

  • Helped to facilitate training for YRDSB and YCDSB staff on new police protocol

Violent Threat Risk Assessment

  • co-facilitated a training workshop for YCDSB staff

  • conduct VTRA's as needed


Code Project

  • Work to put together a STEAM themed summer camp

Supervising Principal of Summer School

  • supervise all elementary and secondary sites

Summer Transition Project

  • create a summer transition reach ahead program
